English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC)
Any School with 21 or more EL must have an English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC). Parents of EL students make up majority of the committee. Parents of English learners elect parent ELAC members. The composition of the committee should reflect similar percentages of the demographics of the school.
ELAC Responsibilities
Ø Advises the School Site Council on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA)
Ø Advises the administration and staff on the programs for English Learners
Ø Assists in the development of the annual R-30 report

Ø Parent Involvement and Outreach
Ø Home-School Communication
Ø Importance of School Attendance
Ø Program Compliance
ELAC Meetings
Ø All ELAC meetings are open to the public
Ø ELAC agendas must be posted 72 hours in advance and include the date, time, place of the meeting and the items to be discussed and acted upon
Ø Action cannot be taken on items not posted on the agenda
Ø Public must be provided access to all materials to be discussed and the opportunity for discussion
Ø A member of the ELAC is selected to be a member of the District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC)
